To do?
Having some days in this extraordinary environment is full of opportunities, cultural spots and outdoor activities.
You can visit historical sites, get lost in small villages or enjoy hiking mysterious paths. The point, as always, is to get lost and find out the country’s secrets. I’ll give you some clues on how to start.
Mont Caro.
Hiking route from the guarded refuge. It is a mountain hike and requires some preparation: map and GPS, suitable clothing, hydration, basic mountaineering knowledge … but generally easy and affordable. Circular trail will take between 4 and 5 hours of activity.
La Foradada del Montsià.
Circular route through Montsià mountain range. It is easy but will be wise to take into account physical preparation, orientation, suitable clothing and hydration. It will take between 4 and 5 hours. Exclusive spot of Ebro Delta and the Alfacs Bay.
Ruta de les Moles de Xert.
A good hiking day will be doing this route starting from the village of Xert in Baix Maestrat county. Circular trail through iconic Mediterranean landscapes. You can even climb some small Via Ferrata staples and get access to the smallest of the three rounded mountains. You will spend about 8 hours of activity.
Ruta del Riu Sénia.
Go up a section of the Sénia river between shadows, pools and small waterfalls. Starting on the house, you can take this funny route and discover hidden spots of la Sénia. It goes through the Toll dels Arenals, the Toll de Martinet, the Cova dels Músics and ends at the Toll de la Font de Sant Pere. Toll means natural pool in catalan so don’t miss your swimsuit!. It is about eight and a half kilometres, and you will spend around four hours of activity.
Discover the area by visiting ancient hermitages, small chapels located in magical spots. In summer, you can find restaurants or event concerts.
Don’t miss the hermitage of La Pietat in Ulldecona, the Royal Sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de la Font de la Salut in Traiguera or the hermitage of Mare de Déu dels Àngels in Sant Mateu.
Get to know the delta from another point of view. Dare to rent bicycles, kayaks or paddle surf boards. Enjoy strolling on your own way among endless rice fields, you will see ducks and flamingos.
Boat trips to rafts where mussels and oysters are farmed. Starting on Sant Carles de la Rápita. Sail between these rafts and learn how mussels and oysters are grown in Alfacs Bay.
Make your own route through the medieval castles of Peñíscola, Morella, Tortosa and Miravet. Stories of conquest, Muslim kings, Pope Luna, Templars and the Carline wars. Pure adventure without cardboard decorations.
Cooking courses
In Poble Nou del Delta the hotel with restaurant l’Algadir del Delta offers cooking courses. Learn how to make an authentic Delta Paella and above all, enjoy eating it!
Do you play golf?
Then you are at home. A few minutes from the house you will find the Panoramic Golf, Sport & Resort in Sant Jordi, a wonderful golf course designed by the German professional Bernhard Langer ready to enjoy from high level players to beginners.
One of the best secrets of the Sénia and one of our favourite plans is to go to cool off in a pool of fresh water hidden in the mountains. Go to the Toll dels Arenals and have a good time bathing or having a picnic in this charming corner. Starting on footing from the house you will find it signposted.
Enjoy your time in the Ulldecona reservoir, stroll along its shore, have a picnic, take a refreshing bath in summer or rent a kayak. You will love this place!
