Embalse de Ulldecona

It is located in the municipality of Pobla de Benifassà. It is at the confluence of four ravines, the ravine of La Fou (or Sénia river), that of Teulatí, La Tenalla and that of La Pobla (or river river). In summer, spring and autumn the reservoir is a tourist spot. There is accommodation and a restaurant and you can rent pedal boats and small boats to enjoy the views of the lake and the surrounding limestone mountains.

It’s a natural park with unique landscapes in the Iberian Peninsula. You have to experience it to get to know it. Plains of rice fields, endless beaches and biodiversity refuge. What else do you want? Get across from Sant Carles de la Rápita to Punta del Fangar lighthouse. Save a few hours to enjoy yourself on Barra del Trabucador beach, a longue tongue of sand between Mediterranean Sea and Alfacs Bay.

Els Ports

A mountain range for losing yourself in admiration and melancholy. This mountain chain goes from Tarragona province to Teruel and Castellon. It is a Natural Park in each of three regions. It is a rough and abrupt landscape with a lot of personality, but with shaded places full of lush vegetation that will captivate you. From here you have two ways to go, entering by Tinença de Benifassa Natural Park, closer to La Sénia or Ports de Tortosa Beseit Natural Park a few kilometres to the north.

Ebro River

One of the most important rivers in the Iberian Peninsula and a singular ecosystem. Go all over from Delta to Mequinenza reservoir. Visit the historic city of Tortosa, save five minutes to visit the Azud de Xerta, go up to the Templar castle of Miravet where you can still use a boat pass, learn about the Ebro Battle of Spanish War and reach the vineyards of Terra Alta.

Urban environment

Nearby La Sénia there are a bunch of cities and villages with worthy visits. Beaches and markets, busy towns which hide cozy places. Cobbled streets, palaces, churches, castles, abbeys, amount of culture and food. The best goal is the distance from the large cities like Barcelona, or Madrid allows you to enjoy it without overcrowding.

Tortosa

Tortosa

The main city in the region, place of cultural and commercial interest. A historic city, it was conquered in 1148 by the Crown of Aragon. Since then, it has been the capital of river lands. Go to its lovely downtown and visit their historical buildings: Cathedral of Santa Maria, Fortification of Sitjar, some palaces such as the Episcopal, Montagut, Despuig, Oliver de Boteller and many more, castles where La Suda stands out, the building of La Llotja, the Modernist Houses, the Bomb Shelter of Spanish War or stroll along the riverside. A tip, go up to the fortress of La Suda at sunset, get in, inside it’s a hotel called Parador Nacional, and enjoy the views.

Vinaroz

Once an old fishing village, today turned into a modern town. It still has an important fishing harbour, go to the surroundings to taste the famous “Vinaroz Prawn”. In summer, it becomes a tourist village. Walk the seafront in the evening or have a drink at a beach bar.

Peñíscola

Famous tourist village since the legendary film El Cid with Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren was recorded here in 1961. Meet the sea in the immense beach of fine white sand, go up to the Templar castle where Papa Luna ruled and know its history, take a look at El Bufador, or get lost in its medieval walled streets. Peñiscola also offers good restaurants, pubs and a good nightlife.

Morella

Morella

Walled city up mountains of Els Ports. Looks like a medieval village you imagine eight hundred years ago, with a wall around and the castle in the middle. I warn you: in Morella everything goes up! Take a round the streets and get up to the old castle ruins. Stay tuned for their main local celebration which takes place each six years called Sexeni. You can’t go out without trying a delicious dessert called flaó.
